Week 7 Blog!

The SMC helped me out a lot! By curating what I would like others to see on my profile, it helped me to choose what would be important to others and what would be easy advocating for. I believe the most important issue is that of extinction. The number of birds is dwindling and I’ve been shown that it is our responsibility to protect them. I’ve decided to write about it because there are an incredible amount of bird species that are going extinct because of humans. Some solutions were very unexpected like keeping cats indoors or changing your windows to bird safe glass. One major unexpected solution was to place windmills in smarter spots away from bird flying routes! During this project I learned about the American Bird Conservancy. Their website is full of problems and also possible solutions that I could use in my essay! My two best tweets were my bird collision tweet and my tweet introducing Corvid Isle. My infographic was also very good and I believe it had a lot of good information on it that was super helpful to the public.

In these philosophical arguments, the one that I will most likely include in my essay is the one where an animals ability to be like us or their economic impact doesn’t matter but their ability to suffer is the only factor in deciding the morality of their treatment. It was very interesting to hear also their comparison of the suffering of a fetus during abortion and a farm animal and described both of their abilities to suffer but that some people are not ready to cross that line.
